Question by iamvman: Pocket Bike, Mini Bike?

I am looking for some type of bike. I am 15, and I know I can not get a full motorcycle, so just something for my neighborhood and around my house. I do not want a little pocketbike that you are scrunched up in, I have seen other people riding, and it looks very uncomfortable. I have heard about a medium, between the size of a pocketbike and a motorcycle. Does anyone have any information on where, how, and how much I could get this? I am looking for the MEDIUM, bigger than a pocket rocket, but smaller than a real motorcycle.
Thanks

I’m just wondering were the best place to buy a mini pocket rocket.

Best answer:

Answer by sleepythreefifty
Depends on where you live. Before, it used to be legal for the flea markets around my place to sell but now they get fined for each bike. Theres always places online that ship. Sometimes you can even find some at garage sales. I’m not sure about where you live but if there’s any flea markets around – you should check them.

Answer by Garfield
Save your money. Those things are junk.

Answer by forktail_devil
why buy them when u cant ride them on the street legally? if u want to run the risk of getting it impounded and getting a big fine out of it when caught on the street……..go for it.

Question by Patrick P: What is the difference between Pocket Bikes and Mini Bikes?

I’ve heard a lot of things about “Pocket bikes” and “Mini bikes” but I’m not sure what the difference is between them (if there is any.) Can someone tell me what the difference is?

Best answer:

Answer by cgriffin1972
Nothing besides most mini bikes are home made.

They are 49cc engine, which means they are not street operale like any other mini bike.

Sure they have headlights and a horn and do 30MPH+

But they have no brake lights
no turn signals
and no title registation
and no where to put a plate.

So they are considerd by law enforcment to be mini bikes.

Answer by Superman
Semantics, possibly just the difference between the generic and brand names we use all the time. Like the differences between “Band-Aid®” and “bandage”, “Kleenex®” and “tissue”, or “ChapStick®” and “lip balm”.

Defined in California, both “pocket bikes” and “miniature bikes” are illegal to be operated on public streets.

http://www.gilroydispatch.com/news/contentview.asp?c=113341

And the State of Washington created this entire tutorial dedicated to them.

Answer by Dimo J
Pocket bikes are so horrible that the State Legislature wrote a special section Just For You:

CVC 21720. A pocket bike shall not be operated on a sidewalk, roadway, or any other part of a highway, or on a bikeway, bicycle path or trail, equestrian trail, hiking or recreational trail, or on public lands open to off-highway motor vehicle use.

Question by Lanesa S: Mini Pocket Rockets is a Rip Off, Should I file a Report With The Better Business Bureau?

Mini Pocket Rockets Accessories Online Inc. www.minipocketrockets.com

I purchased a X7 4-Stroke Super Pocket Bike and a helmet from Mini Pocket Rockets Accessories Online Inc. on December 5, 2006. I received the bike via Fed Ex on December 12, 2006. The X7 Super Pocket Bike came with fuses and the battery was dead. I called and requested that they send me another battery, the fuse was not as important to me as the bike. I purchased fuses from an online company that shipped to me right away. A person from Mini Pocket Rockets told me that he would shipped me a battery right away. I waited for about a week and received know battery. I called again and they told me the same thing. At this point I was very angry and tried emailing them because I could not get a call through, as all of my phone calls were going to the voice mail.
If this sounds familiar. File a Report with http://www.ripoffreport.com

Best answer:

Answer by Oguz Olcay
My friend, sorry for what happened to you. I would not file a report with BBB. After all, who is looking at that site before you buy something? Honestly, did you look at their site before you bought this product? I bet you didn’t.

I think posting this question to Yahoo! Answers is a bigger punishment for them.

Answer by guardrailjim
You can’t prove in a court of law that the original battery wasn’t in working condition when you received the bike.
You can’t prove that you didn’t fry the battery, trying to charge it improperly.
Bite the bullet and purchase a new battery.
Don’t bother filing a report.
One of life’s lessons – don’t buy though mail order.
Even if it had a warranty, you’d have to mail it back to them, so they could honor the warranty and repair it.
Even if you were to mail something back for repairs, they could give you the brush off and keep telling you their waiting for parts.
I know this isn’t what you want to hear – just let it go.

Answer by alcontch
I have been researching for a street legal scooter and have seen the pocket rockets you are talking about. Just about every web site I have seen tells you in the fine print that the battery may and usually needs to be charged. This really sucks for the consumer like you and I, especially if we are hours away from any dealers that can help us hands on. I have also noticed that some of the batteries need to be filled also before charging. Good luck with whatever you decide, but you may want to find a relative or friend and try trickle charging the battery after checking the fluid levels.
